International students can get up to one year of temporary job related to their field of study which is also known as Optional Practical Training(OPT).
OPT has two options,
- Pre-Completion OPT
- Post-completion OPT
There is a condition that one should find a job related to his/her field of study within 90 days of course completion.
A new rule allows students who complete one of the STEM courses will be eligible for 3 year extension after studies. To get OPT permit DSO at your school has to recommend your application to apply for OPT. A DSO has the authority to manage and assist the status of foreign national in your university. To complete this approval you need to reach out and submit a completed OPT I-20 form which you can find in your university website.
